My heartfelt condolences to John Ramsey's family. I knew of many of the good things John did, how he was an integral part of parish at Our Lady of Mercy, a mainstay of the soup-and-movie nights at St Benedict's (and his soup was always extremely delicious), a volunteer at Inn of the Good Shepherd; I was privileged to join him in adding our voices to the aging Italian choir of the former St Peter's Church, which enabled the group to sing for another couple years and make the San Rocco masses more meaningful. After learning today of some of the many other ways John served his fellow-Christians, I began to wonder where he found the time to do all these things. I was at least half serious when I observed "When they open the cause for his beatification, I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out he had the gift of bilocation." May his memory be a blessing.

I am so incredibly saddened to hear of his passing. Mr. Ramsey was a wonderful man. About 28 years ago when I was in Grade 3 at OLM, he would come to my class once a week to read to us and he always had the same teddy bear companion. One day, he gave that teddy bear to a student and the rest of us were so sad. He then returned the next time with a bag of teddy bears, one for everyone. I still have mine. He was such a caring human being. My condolences to his family. Rest in peace Mr. Ramsey. I still think of him every time I see those strawberry creme hard candies.

Ramsey Family, i started my teaching career next door to John and our recently deceased friend Don Steele. We had a rare
4 some with Joanne. It was 2 years of being part of the “downriver disaster crew”. We were happy to teach, sharing ideas and skills to bring joy to the job. I found friendship with the Ramsey girls. Over the years we lost touch but I never forgot those early days. I have been to the OLM events. John was cantor at the last Mass I attended there. I wonder if he has been invited to join the angel choir. Listen fof his voice as the choir sings. May he rest in peace!

John Ramsey was truly a light on this earth to be a beacon to so many.
My first encounter with John was, not surprisingly, at church for that is where he spent a fair amount of his time. Whether it was coordinating various groups or doing the physical “grunt work”, John was always about helping whenever he saw the need. Gently he persuaded me to be involved in activities that helped inspire me to want to be a contributor to those around.
Beyond that, it wasn’t long before he became a good friend and I realized his devotion to family ran just as deep as his devotion to God and community. Many were the times I was having dinner or just socializing at his house, through which I also got to know his wonderful family including his four wonderful daughters. When I began to take up golf, he was one of my partners who, again was gentle in his guidance for improving my game.
While I didn’t get to see him in his role as a high school teacher, I did hear about him being respected by a number of the students he taught over the years. John was a person who could speak well and studied much literature from which he would often draw words of wisdom to use at the appropriate time. He exemplified this as the MC for our wedding for which we will always be grateful.
Not long after that, work opportunities took me away from Sarnia but I was still able to learn of how John was doing through my in-laws who had also been touched by his acts of giving at times.
To Sarah, Ruth, Jacquie, Ellen…my heart and sympathy goes out to you. You have been adults for some time, yet It is my hope and wish that you cherish the special memories of your dad and that they will be your comfort and strength for years to come.
I will close with one final pearl of George Bernard Shaw’s wisdom that John once shared that has remained with me: “I'm not a teacher: only a fellow traveller of whom you asked the way. I pointed ahead - ahead of myself as well as you.”

My sincere condolences to all of John's family. I have known John for a short time. I first met John at the KC's Meat Bingo. In that time I found John to be very helpful with setting up the hall, getting the meat for the winners, and doing anything else that had to be done to make the bingo run smoothly. He had such a wonderful sense of humor. He always made us laugh. John will be truly missed by so many of us. R.I.P. John ....(N 40 )

John was such a wonderful man. He reached out to us upon our arrival to Sarnia eight years ago. Knowing that we moved here from Newfoundland he told us of his teaching experiences near Lorraine's home town. For me he shared his golf stories. He made sure I had rides to Knight of Columbus functions. One great man; well done John.

I've known John all my life. We grew up across the street from each other. He was my mother's favorite boy. I've never met a nicer, kinder, giving, human being. He can never be replaced. But we have all learned something from John. The Lord said his work here is done, so we will carry on with all the things that John has taught us. So now "Rest in Peace" my friend. Our family has known john for what seems like forever, from when he would babysit us, and most recently he would be at the OLM hall serving soup to my father and I. He always had a kind word to say, and always remembered our dad, even dropping off soup to him when he could no longer make it to the hall. John was a great guy and will be sorely missed.

To my Uncle John , may you rest in peace , your passing has left a tremendous void in the Sarnia community. Your sisters , nieces and nephews know that you truly gave the most precious gift to anyone that needed it, TIME. Time to always put others ahead of your self, time to lend an ear , time to help those in need or lend a helping hand in a project , time to smile and give words of encouragement , time to create memories with your sisters , time to always reflect and forgive. You set the bar on what leading by example should be in the community.
You will be missed , love you always Anne Marie

John came to Corunna United and joined our choir.

He also became a part of our Amicitia Friendship Group and attended most meetings and was always willing to help when needed.
