At McKenzie & Blundy, we are pleased to offer a wide range of resources and programs both to families at their times of need as well as to the community at large. We are especially gratified by the positive feedback we receive from our unique Children's Orientation Program.
Outline for the Orientation Program
Children are greeted at the door by the program facilitator as they enter the Funeral Home.
Children are invited into the Children's Room. This is a casual room , which will help make everyone feel more comfortable. If the children are older, we will meet with them in the arrangement conference room. The Children's Room can be used anytime during visitation for the children to watch videos, draw pictures, write letters or simply just play.
Welcome. The facilitator will introduce herself and let the children know that she is there to answer any questions they may have.
Topics We Will Discuss
What happens when someone dies?
What Funeral Directors do
Taking care of the body (in simple terms)
Why do we have visitation? What happens during visitation? What is expected of the children
We will talk about their feelings. Perhaps write a letter or draw a picture to place in the casket with their loved one.
If time permits, we may watch a video pertaining to death and funerals.
Preparing the Children to View Their Loved One
The room where their loved one is will be described.
The casket will be described.
The children that would like to view their loved one will then be walked into the visitation room.
After viewing their loved one, we will be available to answer questions.
