Obituary of Eric William Sivell
SIVELL, Eric – It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the
passing of Eric Sivell, an amazing husband, incredible step-father, loyal brother and
wonderful uncle on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at the age of 65. Beloved husband of
Susan (Gagnon). Dear step-father of Sean Brydges (Amanda). Brother of Bob Sivell
(late Jean), Peter Sivell (Crystal), Adrian Sivell and Mary Margaret Hasler (Mike).
Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents Robert &
Hilda Sivell and brother Jeffrey.
Eric lived his life with passion and on his own terms. His zest for life allowed him and
Susan to travel throughout Canada and the US, catching baseball and football
games, soaking up the sun on beaches in Hawaii, Dominican and Mexico, visiting
family in Eastern Canada and traipsing up mountains in Western Canada. Their
adventures always ended with stories of unprecedented silliness, inside jokes and
close calls that made for a million and one great stories.
Eric’s passions ranged from racing motorcycles, like his Kawasakii Ninja, cheering
on the Toronto Blue Jays and Minnesota Vikings, playing golf poorly, tending to his
gardens, and winning bocce ball tournaments at family reunions. Spending time with
his family, or the family he inherited when he married Susan, truly brought out Eric’s
true colours. He loved spending time in Indiana with the Mino family every summer
playing golf, poker, bocce or just catching up with family.
Eric was a beloved uncle to 9 nieces and nephews. He was the ‘fun’ uncle. The
uncle you could reach out to in a pickle or the uncle that would put you into a
headlock one moment then explain how to invest in stocks the next. He truly loved
being the fun uncle and was so proud of each and every one of his nieces and
nephews.
Eric will be greatly missed by everyone lucky enough to know him. He was smart,
funny and had a hug that would make you feel truly loved. He loved to say that, as a
long time bartender and server, “he had gotten everyone in Sarnia drunk at least
once”. So please join us in raising a glass and toast a great man that will be greatly
missed at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 62 located at 286 Front Street North,
Sarnia, Ont on February 1st from 4pm - 8pm. The family would like to thank the
incredible staff of Bluewater Health in Sarnia for taking extraordinary care of Eric,
specifically the nurses and doctors in the ICU; Dr. Haddad, Deb, Jackie, Elizabeth,
Kendra, Ally and Roberta. As an expression of sympathy, friends who wish may
send memorial donations to St. Joseph’s Hospice, 475 N. Christina St., Sarnia, N7T
5W3 or the Sarnia & District Humane Society, 131 Exmouth St., Sarnia, N7T 7W8.
