I am so very sorry to hear about this tragedy. I didn’t know Mike as well as others but I knew him back in the day and hung out in the same crowds. He will be missed. He always had a brightening smile, a gigantic heart and an empowering soul. He was one of the good ones

Our Mum always said Michael could get away with anything with that cheeky smile, and he always did! He had a way of making every single person he met special. We are left with a hole in our hearts that will never heal. Family - always and forever.
Love,
The Burke’s

Ohhhh Mappy
Where do I begin…?
It was almost 30 years ago when we met… with your signature cheeky grin and full of wisecracks.
Dare I say it…You were my first love.
You quickly became part of the McKay family, on both sides of the Atlantic. You forever endeared yourself while “making rounds” during our trip to England & Scotland. I’m sure my family is not alone in this…you just had that effect on people.
We always knew when (you) “Doc” had arrived at a party, the energy shifted and the fun could begin. From memory, you had many phases …the Joker, the Wisecracker, the Singer, the Scotsman (with a perfected Scottish Brogue), and finally the Jibberer…all the while maintaining that mischievous “Docherty” grin of yours.
You have a personality larger than life and made a lasting impression on every life you touched. You have a gift of remembering little details of your connection with each of us in your extraordinarily large circle, like a birthday or a nickname; something that made us feel special to you.
You adored and were adored by your friends. Family and friends meant everything to you.
We have ALL been shocked and deeply saddened by the news. Uncle Frank commented that “Mike was a Top Guy!”. Articulated perfectly…Mike was a Top Guy!
You will be missed and remembered often and always with affection.
Christy (McKay) Timmers

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Docherty, and the entire Docherty family,
To say the news of Michael's passing shocked and saddened me would be an understatement. Mom shared the story (and I think I recall it happening), of Rosemary and Chip taking Michael out for a stroll without letting the adults around know their plans. I wish Michael was just out for a stroll, right now. You are all in my thoughts. My deepest condolences.

O ye'll tak' the high road, and I'll tak' the low road,
And I'll be in Scotland a'fore ye,
But me and my true love will never meet again,
On the bonnie, bonnie banks o' Loch Lomond.
Mike you will be sorely missed.

I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of Michael. He wasn't someone i knew closely but ive known for a while. I knew him from the occasional drink and remember when he was getting his massage therapy credentials. I would see him when he was serving at Paddy Flaherty's. I would run into him when he was at the beach or watching his son play hockey. Recently saw him at the gas station, feels like just the other day I believe. Even though I didn't know him well he still left an imprint. He truly had such kind, caring eyes. He was someone who could shoulder a banter and alsol lift you up with his words of kindness. He had a little mischievous nature but never one that cross kindness. I didnt know him nearly as well as others but his authenticity shined! Thinking of his boys, family and of you and all who knew him well! He will be missed!
