Obituary of Joseph Martin Gordon Conroy

CONROY, Gordon – With his wife of 73 years and his daughter by his side holding his hands, and making sure he knew he was loved, Gord passed away peacefully at Twin Lakes Terrace on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at the age of 95. He was the beloved husband of Antoinette “Toni” (Berube) and the dearest father of Diane Herron (Kevin), Joyce Reid, Jim Conroy, and Bill Conroy. He was also the loving grandfather to 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Gord, the eldest of nine children, was born in Chapeau, Quebec to Martin and Edna Conroy and moved to Bluewater with his bride in 1947. He was a strong role model and big brother to his siblings and is survived by Francis, Joan, Marilyn and Norma. He is reunited now with his parents and siblings Mickey, Bernard, Bea and Ken.   He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who respected and loved him. Gord had several jobs over the years and worked at the Blue Water Bridge Authority, retiring after 25 years of service. He spoke of his last job often and his many experiences there. Gord had a very dedicated work ethic and loved people.  He was a longtime Eucharistic minister at Sacred Heart Church and a member 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. Gord was faithful to his Church and spent the last sixty years attending Sacred Heart Church. Visitation at McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 N. Christina St. Sarnia on Friday from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Please note that masks/face coverings are mandatory and maximum visitors at one time will be strictly enforced. A private family Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church.  Interment at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery.
