Obituary of Helen Elise Hinchberger

HINCHBERGER, Helen – In the company of family at Bluewater Health, Helen Hinchberger died on Thursday, May 28, 2020 at the age of 81.  Beloved wife of Douglas.  Loving mother of Michael (Tracey), Sean (Maria), David (Sabrina) & Erin (Frank).  Cherished grandmother of Olivia (Sam), Jacob, Noah, Margo, Maia, Rachel and Zhu.  Dear sister of Ruth Schmidt (Richard), Marvin Burgess (Beverly), Jack Burgess (Suzanne), Kathy Leasa (Gerald), Shirley Richard (Jean-Louis) and Mike Burgess (Cathy).  Also survived by many nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by her brothers Raymond (Mary) and William (Bill) Burgess. Dear friend of Ursula Bryant.

Helen was born to the late Harry Burgess and Helen MaGee on April 6, 1939, in Hibernia, New Brunswick.  After obtaining a post-secondary education in nursing, Helen moved to Ontario.  She and Douglas were married in 1964 and resided together in Sarnia for the remainder of her life.  She worked as a nurse in the Emergency Department of the Sarnia General Hospital for many years.

In her leisure time and retirement years, Helen enjoyed playing golf.  Although she never managed to overcome her slice, she did realize her dream of playing The Old Course at St. Andrews. Somehow her oatmeal cookies will never be duplicated.

Many thanks to Dr. Ken Walker of Forest, ON and his staff as well as the staff at the Adult Enrichment Centre of Marshall Gowland Manor in Sarnia, and that of the Med A Unit on the 4th Floor at Bluewater Health in Sarnia.

Due to COVID 19 restrictions, a memorial service and interment will take place at a later date.  Cremation has taken place.  Arrangements entrusted to the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 N. Christina St. Sarnia. As an expression of sympathy, friends who wish may make donations to The Alzheimer Society of Sarnia-Lambton, 420 East St., N., Sarnia, N7T 6Y5 or St. Joseph’s Hospice , 475 Christina St., N., Sarnia, N7T 5W3.
