Obituary of John Donald Florence

FLORENCE, John – John passed away at Bluewater Health on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at the age of 96. Best friend and loving partner of Mary Winter. Dear father of Laura Florence (Bob Goodden), Pamela Florence and Paula Florence (late Ron Kelly). Step-father of Jeffrey Winter (Tanya) and Jennifer Vigreux (Jocelyn). Grandfather of Andrew and Aaron Wright, Jessica Florence and Ben Kelly. Great-grandfather of Alyssa Wright. Step-grandfather of Cameron and Myles Winter, Chloé and Nicolas Vigreux. Predeceased by son Richard and sisters Agnes, Margaret and Mae.

John had a great love for playing football all through his school years. While at the University of Manitoba he played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. John was hired by Imperial Oil and as a result was recruited by the Sarnia Imperials playing with them until he transferred to Montreal. John had many interests including; gardening, gourmet cooking, scuba diving and volleyball. John was famous for his homemade dill pickles which flew out of the house with friends and family. After his retirement John joined the Adopt-a-Scientist program for elementary schools and spent many hours creating models for the classroom. John looked forward to the Brittoli coffee club days with Ken, Bob, Russ, Chris, and Kent. Many thanks go out to Nurse Lance Marcy for his home care. Thanks to the staff at Bluewater Hospital, Dr. Lilly and Palliative Care nurses.

Visitation will be held at the McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 431 Christina St. N. on Friday, February 9, 2024 from 10-10:45 a.m. The funeral service will follow immediately in the chapel at 11 a.m. Private interment to follow.
