Obituary of Jean-Marc Bourassa

BOURASSA, Dr. Jean-Marc – With his family at his side, Jean-Marc died at St. Joseph’s Hospice on Monday, March 20, 2023 at the age of 66. Beloved husband of Lorraine Sabourin. Dear father of Natalie (Taylor), the late Justin (2021), Chantal, and Michelle (Sahil). Loving grandfather of Mathéo and Clara. Brother of the late Claude (2022) (Carolle), Lise (Miguel), Richard (France) and the late Michelle (1969). Brother-in-law of Reg (Sue) Sabourin, Corinne (late Claude Sabourin) and Mary Sabourin. Dear family friend of Alicia Diccion. Predeceased by parents Marcel & Pauline Bourassa and father and mother-in-law Rhéal & Irène Sabourin. 

As an accomplished veterinarian and co-owner of Blue-Cross Animal Hospital, Dr Bourassa specialized in orthopedic surgery and mentored many young local veterinarians.  Jean-Marc’s passions included travel, photography, running and his family. He ran countless road races and marathons over the years, including all 6 marathon majors (Boston, Chicago, Tokyo, London, Berlin and New York). He was also an avid globetrotter and adventurer having visited 150 countries. Roughing it was his preferred mode of travel. In his younger days, he enjoyed hitchhiking around the world and living with the locals in remote villages. His most recent trip last December, had him riding the Iron Ore train in Mauritania and riding on bumpers and camels in the Sahara. His sense of adventure, his laugh, his generosity, his work ethic and his fearlessness will be sorely missed.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at the McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Thursday from 6-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Thomas Aquinas Church on Friday, March 24, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Interment of ashes to follow at Our Lady of Mercy Mausoleum.  As an expression of sympathy, friends who wish may send memorial donations to the Love-All, Justin Bourassa Memorial Fund, which is part of the Sarnia Community Foundation. 109 Durand St., Sarnia, N7T 5A1 (Love-All.ca) or St. Joseph’s Hospice, 475 N.
