Obituary of Peter Gordon McPhail

McPHAIL, Peter Gordon – Peter McPhail died peacefully on Friday, March 10th, 2023 at the age of 84. Loving husband of almost 60 years to the love of his life, Jennie. Loving father of his two daughters; Susan Kielt and her husband Steve and Elizabeth Messeroll and her husband Dave. Cherished grandfather of Lyara and Talia Kielt, Jesse (Jory), Julia (Jace), Isabella and Joseph Messeroll.  Proud great-grandfather of Jax Cummings. Dear brother of the late Jane (Bill) Dalton and the late David (Sharon) McPhail. Dear brother-in-law to the late Karol (Helen) Bartos. Predeceased by his parents Glenn and Helen McPhail.

Peter worked in cost accounting at Polysar and retired as the Plant Controller after 37 years. After retiring, he remained very active within the Sarnia community volunteering his time as Treasurer on the Board of Directors with Sarnia Community Girls Home, Huron House Boys Home, Lambton Mental Health, Rebound, Huron Oaks and the Polysar Retirees Dinner. Peter loved the water and was an avid boater and fisherman travelling throughout the Great Lakes, French River and Georgian Bay with his family and dear friends. Peter loved to ski the mountains of Mount Tremblant and Collingwood and golf throughout Lambton county with his family and close friends. He played volleyball and won the Ontario Senior’s Championship.  He was a naturally gifted woodworker building beautiful pieces of furniture for his family.  Those who knew Peter, knew he loved to read and talk about World War history and politics.

Peter was deeply devoted to his faith at Redeemer Lutheran Church where he proudly served as treasurer, vice president, president and congregation elder. He sang loudly and proudly in the church choir and lead the men’s bible study for many years. Peter’s profound faith gave him great comfort when, surrounded by his family, he was called home.        

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all the medical staff in the CCTC and the Vascular Unit at Victoria Hospital for their kind and compassionate care of Peter.

Visitation will be held at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 Christina St., N., Sarnia on Sunday, March 26, 2023 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.    Funeral Service will be held on Monday March 27^th at 11:00am at Redeemer Lutheran Church with interment to follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
