Obituary of Hastings Freeman Purney
PURNEY, Hastings Freeman – Hastings passed away in Kingston on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at the age of 98. Beloved husband of the late Margaret (2010) for 58 years. Loving father of James Purney (Cathy), Ann Dochstader (Gerry) and Linda Dalton (Ron). Proud grandpa of Nicole Erikson (Blake), Sean Purney, Adam Dillon (Evelyn), Sara Dillon (Ben Serazin), Lisa Garvey (Chris), Kevin Dochstader (Cindy), Michael Dalton (Angela) and Meghan Dalton (Bryan Moloughney). Great-grandpa of Sydney, Georgia, Christopher, Trae, Aaron, Owen, Aiden, Reid, Cole and Wes. Brother of Joshua Purney (May) and Arthur Purney. Predeceased by parents Charles and Anastasia Purney, sister Connie Hirst and brother Robert Purney. Originally from Shelburne, Nova Scotia, Hastings came to Sarnia in 1953. After the death of his wife Margaret in 2010, he moved to Kingston. Hastings was a former R.C.M.P. officer. He retired from Canada Immigration in 1979. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a longtime usher and eucharistic minister at St. Peter’s Parish, a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and was a volunteer for Lifeline Canada. A private family interment will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, friends who wish may send memorial donations to St. Vincent de Paul Society, 106 S.
