Obituary of Jean Margaret Miller
Born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, November 9, 1930, Jean spent her early years in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. The daughter of the late Harold and Ida (Hickman) Geddie she was the sister of Shirley (Archer) Pettit and the late John Geddie. She met her husband, the late Howard Duncan Miller in Sarnia and married October 21, 1948, celebrating their Diamond Anniversary in 2008.
Jean was many things to many people, but to us, the late Jennifer Miller (Cathleen Broderick), Jacqueline Jackson (Frederick), Marlene Black (David), Michael Miller (Lona Kameka), and Mary Miller (Michel) she was Mom. To her grandchildren, Derek Jackson, Amanda Madere, Darryl Jackson, Catherine Miller, Justin Miller, Brianne L’Heureux and Mathieu L’Heureux she was Grandma. She was Nanny to thirteen Great Grandchildren and Aunt Jean to many nieces and nephews.
Jean loved people and she loved her Church, devoting many years to the Girl Guides of Canada as Tawny Owl, Snowy Owl and Brown Owl and many more years to the Catholic Woman’s League of Our Lady of Mercy Church. Though she might not agree, she was a talented artist and seamstress. The mountain of fabric in her sewing room never seemed to empty as she turned out countless skirts, dresses, pants, blouses, and an endless number of quilts throughout the years.
Our mother didn’t have a PHD or an MBE and I am pretty sure she wouldn’t qualify for the Good Housekeeping seal of approval, but what she did have was the ability to make friends, always treating them with love and kindness. It was a quality in which she excelled. If someone was in need, she would go to the ends of the earth to fill that need. For that I believe, she will be forever remembered by all who knew her
