Obituary of Germaine Marie Rose LePage

LEPAGE, Germaine Marie Rose (nee Seguin)- On Saturday January 29, 2022, another angel joined the ranks of Our Heavenly Father. Germaine died peacefully at Port Colborne Hospital Hospice at the age of 96. Beloved wife of the late Richard (2017) for over 69 years.  Loving mother of Louise and her husband Al of Bayfield, Denis and his wife Carol of Wainfleet, and Mitch and his wife Jackie of Whitby. Loving memere to Jill (Jamie), Laura (Rich) Dana (Jason), Rachel (Angus), Jordie (Kelly), Lauren (Mike), Katie (Chris) and Marc. Great-grandma to Turner, Mackenzie, Tyler, Luc, Nolan, Grant, Claire, Theo, Geneve and Violet.

Germaine and Richard met when they were both 17 and soon became each other’s best friends. They were married on November 8, 1947, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Bluewater, ON. Over the next 69 years they raised their three children in Sarnia and watched as the family expanded to include grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Although Mom lost her own mother at an early age, she became a “Model of Motherhood”.  Whether she was sewing a new outfit, following the boys to a music festival or cooking a  delicious meal for extended family and friends, she cherished every moment.  Leading by example, Mom encouraged all of us - to be kind, to be fair, to think of family and others, and to work hard. We did not have to be perfect but it was expected that we would do our best.  Later in life Mom trained and became a French teacher with the Lambton County Public School Board, putting her bilingual skills to work. It was a profession that suited her well. At her retirement tea, it was so gratifying to hear her colleagues give praise to her hands-on approach  to teaching, her no-nonsense discipline and a genuine compassion for struggling students.  Family, faith, needlepoint and bridge were the cornerstones of Mom’s life. She enjoyed all aspects of those endeavours.  The family home was the “go-to” place for laughter and fun for the grandchildren and later the “greats”. Many hours were spent swimming, baking, enjoying music and sleeping in the basement tents.

As a woman of determination, she tried not to let the recent COVID restrictions get her down. In her words, “This is our new war!”. She filled many challenging days reading, playing on-line bridge, watching movies, and learning how to navigate SKYPE so she could see and remain in touch with loved ones.  We will miss her sense of humour and devotion to her family. Mom loved and saved silly greeting cards. There should be a special one that she could chuckle at entitled …”For a Life Well Lived”.  We are comforted in our sadness with the knowledge that Dad is waiting for her and probably saying…..”Hurry up mom….you are going to be late!”..
