Obituary of Joan Anne Flegel
FLEGEL (Carragher), Joan – With broken hearts we announce that our mom Joan has passed away at Bluewater Health on Monday, January 10, 2022. Beloved wife of the late Daniel Flegel (2018). Dear mother of Karl Flegel, Corunna and Shannon Flegel-Robinson (Brent), Sarnia. Loving Nana of Brooke Robinson, and Kenya Flegel and Ava Flegel. Predeceased by parents Ephraim & Melvena Carragher and sisters Genevieve Vacheresse and Shirley Pitts. A natural caregiver, Joan graduated from St. Martha’s School of Nursing in Antigonish, Nova Scotia in 1957 and while she would move to Sarnia shortly after, Nova Scotia was always home. Joan had a long and meaningful career as a registered nurse, first at the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, then St. Joseph’s Hospital and Marshall Gowland Manor in Sarnia. She always said she would rather be the caregiver than the patient. Joan treasured her relationships with people above all other things, and she loved so deeply. Her family and friends meant everything to her, and she missed so deeply those who had passed away before her. Thank you to Dr. Lilly and the nurses of Palliative Care at Bluewater Health for your compassion and tireless dedication to what you do. Visitation at McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 431 Christina St., N., Sarnia on Sunday, January 16 from 2-4 p.m. To attend the visitation, sign up is required at the following link https://signup.com/go/PGcPHrb or call the funeral home at 519-344-3131.
