Dick Hebbourn

Obituary of Dick Hebbourn

With great love the family of the Reverend Richard ‘Dick’ Hebbourn announce that he passed peacefully from Life to Life at Bluewater Health, on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at the age of 84, after a long battle with heart and lung disease. He is the beloved husband for 62 years of Margaret Hebbourn (nee Buttling), and loving father of Kay, Glyn (Debbie) and Wendy (Rick) Hebbourn.  Cherished grandfather of Calum (Hannah) Findlay of Colwood, B.C.; Sara Schmidt of Australia; Rebekka (Bexi) Schmidt (Matt) of Victoria, B.C.; Samantha (Derek) Braley of Cape Breton, NS; Maxwell Hebbourn of London, On; Calvin, Ashley, and Tyra Brontiu of London, ON. and Brynn Loader of Vancouver, B.C.  Great-grandfather of Penny, Florence and Jack Findlay.  He is also survived by nephews John (Pam) Mack and Pete Mack of BC and families; niece Doreen Hooker of Alberta and family; and nieces Susan Hallifax and Frances Chick and their families in England. He is predeceased by his parents Richard & Minnie Hebbourn, and his sisters Pat (Bob) Scarrett of England, and Wyn (Harold) Mack of Ladysmith, BC.

Dick was born in England, and married his long-time sweetheart Margaret in 1959. In 1966 he moved to Sarnia with Margaret, Kay and Glyn; Wendy was born later on.  Initially he worked as a chemist, mostly in Research and Development, for Dow Chemical until 1995.  He was then ordained into the ministry in 1996, and served as an Assistant Priest at Trinity Anglican Church for 10 years (with much of his time spent in Pastoral Care).  He also filled in at many other churches in this area, taking an active part in retreat weekends for young adults in Agape and the Interdenominational Cursillo movement, as well as the Alpha program. He was also a longtime member of the Camera Club, the Glenview Golf & Curling Club and the Sarnia Riding Club.  He enjoyed camping trips, and fixing everything from toys to cars in his earlier days, and later became quite skilled at woodworking and wine making.  He loved his family dearly, as well as his Church family, and many other wonderful, supportive friends and neighbours. He had fond memories of walking on the Howard Watson Trail with his beloved dog Sandy, and he welcomed many visiting dogs into our home. He was thankful for all the health care workers and the devoted workers who help to maintain our home during our recent years of ill health.  God has blessed us with so many kind and willing helpers and I know that Dick had a special place in his heart for Betsy, our rock.

At Dick’s request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Anglican Church on Friday, October 8, 2021 at 2:00 p.m.  Please note that masks and/or face coverings are required for all in attendance.  If you wish to attend the service you must register at https://rsvp.church/r/mmnRbtX1 as space is limited.
