Obituary of Maria Alice Da Silva

DA SILVA, Maria – It is with great sadness that the family of Maria Alice Da Silva announce her passing at Marshall Gowland Manor on Sunday, May 9, 2021 at the age of 85, after 11 years of battling Alzheimer’s. Maria has finally opened her wings to be with her saviour. She is predeceased by her husband of 51 years Clarimundo Da Silva, her infant sons Daniel, Aciolindo, Vitor and Rui Francisco, her parents Verissimo & Eugenia Leite, her 2 grandsons Paulo Da Silva and Jason Gregorio and her brothers Valentino and Gualdino Leite. She is survived by her children Jose (Lurdes), Gabriel (Crisulina), Salome (Gil), Lucia (late Joaquim), Manuel (Fernanda), Irene (Atilio), Vitor (Maria), Julia and Luis (Erin). Also surviving are 23 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, sisters Jardelina, Fernanda, Odelta and brother Carlos as well as many nieces and nephews. Maria immigrated to Canada in 1988 where despite all obstacles and language barriers she managed to adapt and fit right in, because that’s how she was as a person…always persevering against all odds. To Maria, the most important thing in life was her family. Her greatest joy and accomplishment was to raise her children to become loving, honest and hardworking human beings. Her happiest moments were when all her children and their spouses and their children gathered around the table to eat the food that she so proudly and lovingly made every Sunday for lunch and dinner. That to her was her pride and joy. Maria loved gardening and had a green thumb for her flowers, house plants and especially for her rose bushes. She also loved cooking, crochet and quilt making. We want to thank all the wonderful staff at Marshall Gowland Manor that so lovingly and patiently cared for mom over the last 11 years, especially in the last days of her life. Special thanks to Margo Butler, Marie Airlie-Crafts, Janice Crombeen-Stratton, Jaime Toruno, Laura, Doris, Greg, Amy, Lisa and Lowalla. Due to the restrictions of Covid 19 a private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Benedict’s Church with interment at Resurrection Cemetery. Please note that masks/face coverings are mandatory for all in attendance. As an expression of sympathy, friends who wish may send memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society, 420 N. East St., Sarnia, N7T 6Y5. Arrangements entrusted to the McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home & Cremation Centre 519-344-3131.
