Myrl Leenders

Dorothy Myrl Leenders (nee MacKenzie) passed away on February 15, 2021 at Bluewater Health. Beloved wife of Gus Leenders.  Born on October 22, 1941 to Hector and Zylpha MacKenzie in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, she was raised as the middle child of three girls, in the Village of Sunny Brae. She worked in Truro, NS before moving to Sarnia in April 1965 where she worked at Polysar until her retirement in 2001.

Loving sister of Myrta Moser and Karen (Lloyd) Crawford, both of Nova Scotia. Sister-in-law of John (Marie – 2014) Van Werde, Liza (John – 2011) Vermeulen, Joseph (Freda) Leenders, Andrew (Ann) Leenders, Albert (Kathleen) Leenders, Eugene (Willie) Leenders, Herman Leenders, Richard (Gladys) Leenders.  Also survived by many nieces & nephews and their families.  Predeceased by her parents and her in-laws, John & Huberta Leenders. 

 

Myrl met Gus on February 10, 1967 at a singles dance. They got married on October 21, 1967 and haven’t stopped dancing for 53+ years. She remained close to her family on the east coast doing yearly visits and where some of her fondest memories were of fishing with her nieces & nephews.  Myrl was the ultimate hostess. She loved to cook and entertain.  Myrl looked forward to her weekly lunch with friends. She was an avid reader and always enjoyed a good mystery book.  Loving the outdoors, Myrl was an avid walker.  She was also an active member of the Polysar Retirement Group and a long time member of the Catholic Women’s League.

Visitation at McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 431 N. Christina St. Sarnia, on Sunday, February 21, 2021 from 1:30 – 4 p.m. COVID 19 restrictions are in place and attendance is restricted to sign in only at  https://signup.com/go/kYKqWRK   or by calling the funeral home at 519-344-3131.  Please note that masks/face coverings are mandatory and maximum visitors at one time and social distancing will be strictly enforced. Private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Benedict’s Church.
