Obituary of Hildegarde Frances Wyrzykowski

Wyrzykowski, Hildegarde Frances Anne (Oct. 5, 1931 - Feb. 9, 2021) - Our beautiful mother has been welcomed home by God, and into the loving embrace of Ray, who had been waiting for her for almost 32 years. A woman of deep faith, we have no doubt that she is happy and at peace. She is survived by all of her many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and all of the wonderful life partners that were chosen to join her large, close-knit family. Hildy’s life was an adventure. Born in Vancouver B.C., she spent her early years living and traveling across western Canada by rail with her parents, as her father was employed by the railroad. They settled in Winnipeg, where she earned her university degree from St. Mary’s College and worked at Fort Garry Brewery. If that wasn’t enough to prove her commitment to the road less travelled, she soon met and married Ray, who was certainly not the man her mother had envisioned for her. As we know, it was the right decision and one that would make all the difference in the path her life would take. 

Hildy and Ray moved to Sarnia where they grew their large blended family through births and adoptions. They shared their love of God with many as active participants in Sacred Heart Parish, where Hildy was a proud member of the CWL for more than 60 years. They spread their faith to others through their involvement with Cursillo, COR and RCIA. In 1986, John Barnfield and Ray founded Rayjon Share Care, and with the help and support of Maggy and Hildy, and many others, extended their caring to the global community. When Ray died in 1989, Hildy searched for a new direction and found her calling in volunteerism. She gave generously of her time for 20 years to BlueWater Health, volunteering in the palliative care ward as well as delivering the Eucharist to hospital patients. She then went on to volunteer at St. Joseph’s hospice, where she shared her love of scrapbooking by helping children create memorial scrapbooks for loved ones they had lost. Hildy had a talent for making beautiful things, and her photographs, handmade cards and knitted masterpieces continue to bring comfort and joy to those she loved. Her kindness and gentle spirit will always live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

The family would like to thank the staff at Trillium Villa for the care they gave Hildy in her final years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Rayjon Share Care or St. Joseph’s Hospice. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Sacred Heart Church with interment at Our Lady Of Mercy Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home & Cremation Centre.
