Obituary of Dirk Rykens Kock

KOCK, Dirk Rykens – Dirk passed away peacefully at Bluewater Health Palliative Care on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at the age of 100. Beloved husband of the late Mary Catharina (2007). Dear father of John Cook (Cynthia), Lambton Shores. Loving grandpa to Jon Cook (Jenn), Patricia Cook (Dan Bruce) and Daniel Cook (Miki). Great-grandpa to Adelyn, Emma, Juno, Mei and Jonah. Brother of Tini and Manna. Relative of many nieces and nephews with their familes in Michigan and the Netherlands. Father-in-law of Anne. Predeceased by son Henry Kock, as well as daughters Helen Rykens (Dan) and Irene Kock (Dave). Dirk owned Huronview Nurseries, that was a family run business which was situated in Bright’s Grove, Ontario. It is with this location that his love of Orchids and nature flourished.  He and wife Mary were avid travelers of the world through passion and as orchid collectors. He had received numerous awards and ribbons for amazing orchids and varieties. Most of the almost 12,000 trees in the McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home Memorial Forest came from Huronview Nurseries. Dirk will also be remembered as a WW2 Veteran.
