Obituary of Gerald Harvey Kingyens
KINGYENS, Gerald Harvey – Passed away peacefully at Bluewater Health with family by his side on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at the age of 91. Beloved husband and best friend of the late Patricia Ann (Jones), (2015). Gerald & Patricia raised four children; enjoyed eight grandchildren; and later ten great-grandchildren. Dear father of Sharon Taylor (David) of Sarnia; Cheryl Clausen (John, 2012) of Cobourg; John Kingyens (Lynn) of Sarnia; and Peter Kingyens (Heather) of Saskatoon, SK. Loving grandfather of Kevin, Meighen, Joshua, Jeffrey, Kristen, Brooke, Ryan and Sarah.
Gerry will be greatly missed by his sister Doris Daigle of Virginiatown, brother Lorne (Pearl) of Winnipeg, Elizabeth (John) Ramsell of Aurora, sister-in-law Dorothy Jones (Clayton, 2004), sister-in-law Marlene Fink (Peter) of Red Deer, AB and many cherished nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Claude Kingyens (1965) and Evelyn Kingyens (1964) of Virginiatown and sister Grace Ladybrod (2009) of Kirkland Lake, Aunt Stella Kingyens of New Liskeard (1980), son-in-law John Clausen of Cobourg (2012), brother in-laws Gordon Daigle of Virginiatown (1991) and John Ramsell of Aurora (2014).
After marriage to Patricia on October 28, 1951 life continued in Virginiatown, ON until 1953 when Patricia’s brother Clayton urged mom and dad to start a new life here in Sarnia. Gerry joined the Sarnia Fire Department and served the community for 34 years before retiring at the rank of Captain. After Gerry retired from the fire service, Pat and he enjoyed an adventurous life at Pine Lake in Bayfield, ON, as well as many winters in Florida. Gerry’s final years were contentedly spent at Landmark Village where he enjoyed the friendly atmosphere, played bridge and formed some special friendships with residents and staff. Gerry leaves behind many lifelong friends who will miss his conversation, humor and special smile. Gerry was a member of St. Benedict’s Parish.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 Christina St. N., Sarnia on Friday, April 17, 2020 from 11 – 1 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held immediately following visitation at 1 p.m. in the McKenzie & Blundy Chapel. Interment to follow at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery.
