Obituary of Dietmar Fuchs
FUCHS, GUNTER DIETMAR, 84, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2020 in Sarnia, Ontario. Dietmar was born on November 25, 1935 in Wiesbaden, Germany to Margarete (Burkhart) and Wilhelm Martin Fuchs. He met the love of his life, Gisela Hasselfeld in Schweinfurt, Germany in 1954 where they were attending school. In 1955 Dietmar immigrated to Canada and Gisela soon followed in 1957. They married on October 8, 1957 in Montreal, Canada. Shortly after, they moved to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario where they lived for 36 years. In 1995 they moved to Sarnia, Ontario where they have lived for 25 years.
Dietmar was employed as an electrician at Algoma Steel in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. While in Sault Ste. Marie, Dietmar had many hobbies including owning his own BMW motorcycle dealership, Beat My Wheels. He was an avid motorcyclist, travelling from coast to coast in Canada and the United States. He loved listening to music and this hobby brought a world of music to both of their children, Michael and Barbara. His love of animals was seen in his home where he had birds including parakeets, canaries, finches, cockatiels, African Ring necks, Amazons and Greys. His love of fish brought in many fish tanks where he had a wide variety of tropical fish. His love of dogs remained with him his entire life and there was always a four legged friend in Gisela and Dietmar’s household. He was a soccer coach in Sault Ste. Marie and enjoyed bowling, golfing and biking. Dietmar was also an avid gardener.
Dietmar is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Gisela; son Michael Fox of Okemos, Michigan (daughter-in-law Laura) and grandson, Samuel; daughter Barbara Graham of High River, Alberta (son-in-law Keith Graham) and grandchildren, Daja, Ayla (Collin Anda) and Calum Graham; great-grandchildren Kixston and soon to be “Baby” Anda. He is also survived by his sisters Sonja Thoennes (Wally Ambrose); nephews Jason Wrigley (Laura and son Jack) and Mark Wrigley of Australia; Violetta Feuerbacher (the late Harold) of Germany; nieces Tanya and Dunja; cousin Margarete Weisburn of Washington, brothers-in-law Peter Gaul (Christel), niece Valeria, Horst Gaul (Hannelbore). His sister Vera preceded him in death.
His family would like to thank the generous and wonderful support from neighbours, friends and medical staff at Bluewater Health and LHIN of Sarnia. Cremation has taken place.
