Obituary of Robert Thomas Kelly

KELLY, Robert Thomas – Peacefully at Bluewater Health, Tom Kelly died on Friday, January 10, 2020 at the age of 94. Beloved husband of the late Margaret Jane Kelly. Loving father of Tom & his wife Sharon, Sarnia and Pat Walker & her husband Don, Morinville, Alberta. Proud Grandpa of Dr.Kathleen Kelly (Joe Ross), Ottawa, Jennifer Verslype (late Brett), Sarnia, Thomas Kelly (Catherine), Sarnia, James Kelly (Tasneem Essaji), Toronto & Michael Kelly, Point Edward. Cherished GGPa of Brendan, Sarah, Jack, Lilly, Claire, Sean, Leila, Patrick, Mariyah. Predeceased by his parents James & Mary Kelly and siblings; Fr. James, Joseph and Winnifred. Tom served in the Canadian Navy during WWII as a Sonar Operator. He worked at Bell Telephone Canada/Bell Canada for his entire career. He was a huge baseball fan as both a player and an umpire/referee. His favourite team was the Toronto Blue Jays. He was a long time resident of Woodstock Ontario before moving to Sarnia to be closer to his cherished family. Tom was well known at Woodstock's Navy Club and Legion Hall. He loved getting his toes tapping and fingers snapping to big band music. When he started swing dancing, people stopped to watch the show. Always quick with a joke or a riddle, Tom maintained his sense of humour even while his health was failing. His generosity, humour and youthful spirit will be greatly missed. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Cheong, Paula Riley and the staff on acute care of Bluewater Health for their excellent care of Tom. Visitation will be held at the McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 431 Christina Street N., Sarnia on Friday, January 17, 2020 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church on Saturday, January 18th at 10:00. Cremation to follow with a private family interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Woodstock.
