Obituary of Shirley Honora Mousseau

Shirley Honora Mary (Fitzgerald) Mousseau

January 4, 1930-November 8, 2019

Peacefully, at Trillium Villa, with family by her side and held close in the hearts of those at home, Shirley died and is now reunited with her beloved husband Peter and her sons, Mark and Tom. We were blessed with the gift of a wonderful, loving mother who will be missed dearly. No doubt she’s enjoying the “big group hug” in heaven!

Shirley was the cherished wife of Peter Mousseau (2008). Dearest sister of Tom Fitzgerald (Calgary) and Pat Keaney (Sudbury). Beloved mother of Pat (Glenn) Broome, Peter (Patsy) Mousseau, Susan (Brad) Robb, Mark (2011)(Carrie) Mousseau, Barbara (Doug) Woodrow, Tom(2019) (Becky) Mousseau. Loving grandmother to Peter, Robert, Michelle, Meaghan, Colleen, Patrick, Mike, Mark, Marie, Jessica, Ben and Andrew. Great grandmother to Elizabeth, Victoria, Brendan and Paige.

Shirley was born in Detroit, Michigan, while her father found work there during the Depression. The family returned to Canada shortly after, and she was raised in Sudbury, Ontario. Shirley graduated from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing, Sudbury, Ontario in 1952. In December of 1953, she took a position in Sioux Lookout, Ontario. It was there that she met Peter, himself a new high school teacher. They fell in love, moved back to Sudbury at the end of the school year and were married October 9, 1954. In 1969, they moved the family to Sarnia and remained here to raise their family.

Shirley returned to nursing in 1975 at the former St. Joseph’s Hospital. She was on Surgical floor for a few years until becoming Evening Supervisor. She loved her years at the hospital. She retired in June of 1989. Shirley’s greatest joy was her family. She made many sacrifices to be sure we had everything we needed. Education was a top priority. Shirley also enjoyed playing bridge weekly with her bridge club.

The family extends deep gratitude to the loving and caring staff at Trillium Villa, particularly to the Sunrise wing. Your care and constant compassion for our mother over the last 5 1/2 years will be forever appreciated. Thank you.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at 12:30 p.m. Private family interment at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery.
