Obituary of Sally Jane Beaton

BEATON (KOPPEL), Sally Jane – At Bluewater Health, Sarnia, Ontario on Thursday, September 26, 2019, Sally Beaton died at the age of 78.  Beloved wife of Jack Beaton for 26 years.  Loving mother of Gretchen Destremps (Skip) and Jane Hamblin (Todd) both of Massachusetts. Dear step-mother of Gary Beaton (Macrina) of Calgary, Randy Beaton (Esther) of Calgary and Marilyn Beaton (Chris Tiltman) of Delaware, ON.  Cherished grandmother of Courtney Destremps, Samantha Cunningham (Cameron) and Joseph Hamblin and step-grandmother of Annelise Smith, Vanessa Stewart, Alex Beaton and Hamish Tiltman. Great-grandmother of Sullivan, Linden, Jaeda, Edmund, Arthur and Theodore.  Predeceased by parents Samuel & Mildred Bowe. Sally was born April 19, 1941, graduated Grants Pass High School 1959, Willamette University 1963 and Washington State University (WSU) 1990. She served as Associate Director of the WSU Alumni Association and was the “Road Mom” for the school’s show choir, Crimson Company. One of Sally’s greatest legacies was her work on the WSU building committee which led to the creation of the Lewis Alumni Centre. She moved to Sarnia in 1993 where she continued her love for quilting, knitting and discovered a new passion for rug hooking. Sally’s work has been internationally recognized in both quilting and rug hooking magazines. She made lifelong friendships through her art and passed along the love for these arts to her children and grandchildren. Sally and Jack enjoyed travel and visited all 7 continents. Sally was an avid dog lover. She rescued many dogs and volunteered with the therapy dog program in Sarnia, Ontario. Long after leaving WSU, Sally’s passion for WSU Cougar sports continued. Cremation has taken place.  A celebration of life will be held at Trinity Anglican Church (Murphy near Michigan) on Monday, September 30, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish may make a donation to the Sarnia & District Humane Society, 131 Exmouth St., Sarnia, ON, N7T 7W8, St. John Ambulance Sarnia-Lambton Therapy Dog Program, 741 King St., London, ON, N5W 2X2 or the WSU Lewis Alumni Centre, P.O.
