Obituary of William George Watters

Watters, William, George (Bill) – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father Bill Watters at 85 years of age on Monday, September 9, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Hospice in Sarnia. Loving husband, best friend and soul mate to his predeceased wife Karetta Watters of 62 years and cherished father of Dave Watters and his daughter-in-law Karen Watters. Dad was born in Sarnia on July 23, 1934 and grew up in a busy home of 7 siblings including himself. Survived by his brother Bob Watters (Dad’s best friend), John Watters, Marie Mitchell, his loving sister Betty Watters, predeceased by Jerry Watters, Ruth Watters and by his parents Lyle and Muriel Watters. Dad was a self-made man from his early teens and he began his career working for Harry Haines at Haines Printing and at that time, it was located on Front Street.  Dad soon worked his way up the ladder and one day Reita Haines offered Dad and 3 other partners, (Bill Chong Sr., Roy Newman and Kia Sorenson), an opportunity to purchase the business.  Upon doing so, they renamed it Haines Frontier Printing and as the business grew, they soon relocated to Talfourd & Stuart St. (just behind SCITS) where it is still a thriving business today.  Over the years, partners passed and others moved on and after the passing of Bill Chong Sr., Dad accepted Bill Chong Jr. as partner until Dad retired. Mom and Dad loved to travel.  Whether it was to the U.S.A., Hawaii, Mexico, Bahamas and countless other destinations, they always looked forward to their next trip.  After Mom’s passing, Dad soon began going to the mall with his brother Bob and in time, their crowd of buddies became quite large and their conversations became subject for good conversation during our Sunday dinners.  Karen and I thank all of you mall buddies for being good friends and company for Dad. There was only one other place more important to Dad than the mall.  He absolutely loved going to our cabin in Sault Ste. Marie and he would pull all the stops and go there as much as possible. We are forever grateful for that. We would especially like to thank Palliative Care Doctors Maddison and Khan for giving dad the best quality of life in his remaining weeks which allowed him to live at home with us and go to camp one last time.  And special thanks to Dr. Crombeen and V.O.N Nurse Danielle Kim for making Dad’s final hours at home and at hospice comfortable.  Also, to the staff at St Joseph’s Hospice, Bayshore Home Care Solutions and L.H.I.N. (CCAC).  We are so grateful for the services that were provided that allowed Dad to live at our home during his final weeks. In keeping with Dad’s wishes, there will be no memorial or funeral services. Arrangements entrusted to the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 519-344-3131.  As an expression of sympathy, friends who wish may send memorial donations to St. Joseph’s Hospice, 475 Christina St. N., Sarnia, N7T 5W3 or the V.O.N., 1705 London Line, Sarnia, N7W 1B2.   Messages of condolence & memories may be left at www.mckenzieblundy.com
