Obituary of Iona Dorothy Lunn

Iona Dorothy Lunn

There’ll be more singing and dancing in Heaven tonight. Iona Lunn has left us in her 99th year to joyfully join her beloved husband George (1989) and her sister Alice Kinahan, as well as numerous friends and relatives.

Born in 1919 in Vancouver, Iona grew up in Trail, B.C. with her parents Margeurite and Robert Langridge. There she developed a love for dance at a young age and later taught at a variety of dance schools. After marrying George in 1946, they moved to Toronto and then to Sarnia where they raised their six noisy, happy children on Lakeshore Road.

Iona was the loving mother of June and Jim Boyle (Black Creek, BC), Ken Lunn (Salt Spring Isl. BC), Connie Dugal (late Matt, London, ON), Chris Lunn and Jan Davey (Port Franks), Jo Lunn and Nancy Blaney (Banff, Alta.), Tim Lunn and Elisa Freed Lunn (Nanaimo, BC).

Grandma Ona will be fondly remembered by Sam Lunn, Flower Lunn and Adam Harvie (Elsa), Josh Lunn and Katy MacLachlan (Finnigan,  Pippa), Hannah Lunn, Gabriel Lunn, Kevin and Katelyn Dugal (Madeline).

For many years, Mom and Dad sang in the Sacred Heart Church choir. Mom also loved singing barbershop with the Happy Harmonizers and then joined John Wilson and other groups singing for various Lambton County nursing homes.

Another love of Mom’s was working with children, volunteering in classrooms at St. Michael’s and Sacred Heart Schools, as well as swimming with young adults with intellectual disabilities.

In Mom’s 96th year, she moved from her home on Cathcart to Landmark Village and more recently to Extendicare London. The family would like to express their sincere thanks for the outstanding attention and affection shown to Mom at both care homes. Our gratitude is also extended to Dr. Michael Stoesser (“Dr. Mike” to Mom) for his dedication, patience and exceptional care of Mom for many years.

Donations may be made to Noelle’s Gift or to the charity of your choice. In honour of Iona, we suggest you might dedicate some volunteer time for the betterment of your community.

Mom was ready to meet her God and to capture once again her youthful energy and joy. Enjoy the party Momsie! You lived your life well.
