Obituary of Jeanette Ennis
Those we love don’t go away,
They walk beside us every day,
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear
After a long hard battle with cancer, Jeanette Ennis (nee Brownlees), 80, of Sarnia, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 6, 2019 with her family by her side at St. Joseph’s Hospice. Beloved wife of Jimmy Ennis for 57 fabulous years. Dear mother of Jim Ennis (Jennifer), Joanne Glasgow (Colin) and Peter Ennis. Adoring grandmother to 5 grandchildren: Michael, Jacob, Nicholas, Aidan and Kieran. Also survived by siblings: Betty Falloon (Albert dec.) of Sarnia, John Brownlees (Aileen) and Raye Henry (George) of Larne, Co. Antrim, N.Ireland and Iris Lane (Arthur) of Niagara Falls. Predeceased by brother Billy Brownlees (Marie) and her parents Johnny and Ellen Brownlees all of Larne. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews both in Canada and N.Ireland. Jeanette grew up in Larne, N.Ireland and worked in the service industry from an early age, supporting her family and siblings all through their early childhood. Her and Jimmy decided to emigrate to Canada in 1978 to give their children a ‘better life’. She loved visiting the country of her birth after emigrating to Canada. Jeanette worked as a chef in several different restaurants in Sarnia, and loved the interaction with staff & customers, who fondly referred to her as ‘mom’. When family visited from Ireland, she would always provide the best (and largest meals), and make everyone welcome. Many enjoyable times and lots of stories were built around these meals with family and friends. In her spare time she traveled with Jimmy. On a whim they would hop in the car and end up in Chicago or Nashville or some other destination. She loved to knit her whole life and could finish a sweater or baby outfit in a couple of hours- the knitting needles moving so fast. The family would like to Thank the staff at Bluewater Health - Palliative Care, Dr.Lilly for his dedicated and compassionate care this past year and all staff & volunteers at St. Joseph’s Hospice. In keeping with Jeanette’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 Christina St. N., Sarnia, on Friday, June 14, 2019 at 11 a.m. There will be no funeral home visitation. Following the service, friends are invited to the Royal Canadian Legion, 286 N. Front St., Sarnia for a time of fellowship from 12 noon - 2 p.m. As an expression of sympathy, friends who wish may send memorial donations to St. Joseph’s Hospice, 475 N. Christina St., Sarnia, N7T 5W3.
