Obituary of Leonides Jose Magtanong

MAGTANONG, Leonides (Leony) Jose – At St. Joseph’s Hospice on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at the age of 84. Beloved wife of Alejandro “Alex” for almost 61 years. Dear mother of  the late Ginia Magtanong, Betty Latosinsky (Rob), Sarnia, Ted Magtanong (Vera Vanderschot), Sarnia and Bob Magtanong, Sarnia. Special aunt of Vic Magtanong (Anita) and Tony Vergara (Shirley). Loving grandmother of Michelle Latosinsky (Ryan), Dr. Alex Latosinsky (Dr. Eryn), Berni Magtanong, Isaiah Magtanong, Mika Magtanong and Chris Latosinsky. Special Lola of Leslie, Melissa and Jill Magtanong. Sister of the late Geny Banaybanay (the late Leonardo), the late Casio Jose, the late Jose Jose (the late Normita), Fronio Jose (Emily), Barbara Amin (late Maning), Cita Fojas (Mac), the late Narcing Jose (Juliet) and Felipa Flores-Asuit (Floro). Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Leony came to Canada from the Philippines in 1967, first settling in Fort McMurray with her 3 young children to join her husband Alex. They moved to Sarnia in 1969 and have lived here ever since. She worked for many years in inventory control with Canadian Tire and was a member of the Catholic Women’s League.  Leony was a matriarch of the Sarnia Filipino community and enjoyed socializing with the group. She was a very caring and unselfish person. Leony loved to entertain and welcomed all into her home. Her infectious smile will be missed by all. Visitation will be held at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 Christina St. N., Sarnia, on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2019 at Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church.  Interment Resurrection Cemetery.
