Obituary of Charles Hugh Munro

Munro, Charles Hugh - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father Charles ‘Chuck’ Munro on February 12, 2019 at Bluewater Health, Sarnia at the age of 76.  He is now reunited with the love of his life, his late wife Colene (Catt) who passed in 2016.   He will be dearly missed by his children Chuck (Tara) Munro and Sharri (George) Carr.  Beloved grandfather of Austin & Ashlynn Munro.  Predeceased by his parents Charles and Catherine (McIntyre) Munro and his brother Norm.  He is survived by his sister Charlotte (Roger) Croteau, sister in law Theresa Munro, and sister in law Marlynne Catt (late William ‘Bill’).  He leaves behind many nephews, nieces, and cousins.   Chuck was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia and moved to the Sarnia area when he was a young boy.  He met his true love Colene when they were teenagers, and knew in his heart that she would be the one he would eventually marry.  He obviously ‘wooed’ her, and they were married on his birthday which happened to be Canada’s centennial birthday in 1967 at St. Benedict’s Church.  Chuck held numerous jobs but eventually found his career to be with the Lambton Kent school board. He moved into various maintenance positions throughout his career, with his last being a painter for the board.  He eventually retired after 29 years in 2001.  In the years before his wife passed away and the complications of dementia set in, he loved to play card games with the family, go to theatres where he enjoyed all types of musicals and shows, travel, head out to various casinos to play the slots and loved to play his guitar (and sing along, even though he couldn’t hold a tune). We would like to give our thanks and gratitude to the staff who cared for our father on the 4th and 5th floors at Bluewater Health Sarnia.  There are just too many to name that were involved with his care throughout his journey.  Thank you to all the nurses, psw’s, social workers, behaviourist, and of course the doctors, for the care they gave not only to our father but to us as well.  Your jobs are not easy, and it takes very special people to care for the patients on their journey, and for that we are truly grateful.  A special thank you is needed to the volunteers that give up their time helping, comforting, and listening to the patients and especially the time you spent with our father.   Visitation at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 Christina St. N., Sarnia, on Friday, February 15, 2018 from 7-9 p.m.  The funeral service will be held in the McKenzie & Blundy Chapel on Saturday, February 16th at  1 p.m. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.  As an expression of sympathy, friends who wish may send memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Society, 420 N. East St., N7T 6Y5 or Bluewater Health-Complex Care Unit, 89 Norman St., N7T 6S3.  Messages of condolence and memories may be left at www.mckenzieblundy.com
