Obituary of Phyllis Joyce Wheatley

WHEATLEY, Phyllis Joyce – Phyllis passed away at Trillium Villa on Monday, December 3, 2018 at the age of 88. Beloved wife of the late Frederick Wheatley. Dear mother of Patience McGill, Westland, MI., late Dr. Neil McGill, Jamaica, Marlene Lopez, Jamaica, Dennis Lopez, Jamaica, Karl Lopez, Jamaica, Tonette Lopez, Toronto and Rita Ford, Toronto.  Loving grandmother of Gennea, Michael, Dwain, Wendy, Laighton, Neilia, Neil- Jorge, Matthew, Stacey, Andre, Denise and Mallek. Sister of Herma Chang, England. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brother Alexander Ford and sisters Edna Hutchinson, Winnifred Moody, Rosa Baker, Lileth Edinboro and Yvonne Ford. Phyllis Joyce (Ford) Wheatley was born on May 4, 1930 in Kingston, Jamaica W.I.  She was the fourth of seven children, from the union of Dr. Charles Emmanuel Ford and Mabel Elizabeth (Ware) Ford.  She completed high school in Kingston, shortly after the family moved to Clarendon W.I.  In 1950 she started working for the Ministry of Agriculture.  In 1968 she immigrated to the Bahamas, then came to Canada.  In 1972 she met Frederick Walter Wheatley.  They were married in 1982 in Jamaica. They returned to reside in Canada.  Phyllis was a phenomenal homemaker, cook and organizer.  Few could hold a candle next to her.  Her middle name was Joyce (however if the truth be told that was a reflection of the joy she had within).  This same joy she constantly shared with everyone she came in contact with.  She loved to entertain.  She loved to dance and be surrounded by her grandchildren.  She truly was a kind, loving and caring person.  Visitation will be held at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 Christina St. N., Sarnia, on Friday, December 14, 2018 from 11-11:50 a.m. The funeral service will be held immediately following in the McKenzie & Blundy Chapel at 12 noon. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, friends who wish may send memorial donations to the Tabernacle Church of God, 204 East St. N., Sarnia, ON N7T 6X7.
