Obituary of John Ernest Manton

John Ernest Manton PhD, B.Sc., DIC, passed away on November 15, 2018 at C.E.E. Hospital in Petrolia in his 86^th year.  John was the beloved husband of Joyce (Walmsley) for 61 years and proud father of Janice (Tom) Burns and Jillian Manton and loving grandfather to Nicholas (Trish) Burns and Gregory (Steph) Burns. He was predeceased by his sister June.  He will be missed by his family and many friends. John was born in Swindon, England to the late Ivy and James Edward Manton. He was educated at Kimbolton School in Bedfordshire, London University at Chelsea Polytechnic and Imperial College in England. John married Joyce (Walmsley) in February 1957 and then sailed for Canada the following month to start work in Ottawa where he spent 2 years at the National Research Council. He then worked for a year in Kingston at the Royal Military College before coming to Polymer Corporation, Sarnia in 1960.  He retired in 1995 as the manager of the Patent Department after 35 years of service. During his years in Sarnia, John was an active member of Canon Davis Memorial Church serving as Treasurer and a member of the Parish Council for many years.  He served on the Parks Board, on the Board of Directors of the Children’s Aid Society and the Sarnia Humane Society for several years. He also worked with the Polysar Glee Club on many productions and served on the executive. Please honour John by wearing bright colours and a smile. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Canon Davis Memorial Anglican Church (Russell at Maxwell) on Monday, November 26, 2018 from 1-1:45 p.m. The memorial service will immediately follow at 2 p.m. A reception will follow in the church hall.
