Obituary of Joan Nelson

NELSON, Joan (Knox) – Joan passed away peacefully at the age of 102 at St. Joseph’s Hospice, surrounded by her loving family on Friday, November 9, 2018. Beloved wife of the late Jack (1995). Dear mother of Anne Marie Fenn (Rick), Lagoon City, John Nelson (Joy), Mount Brydges, Jim Nelson, Sarnia, Bill Nelson, Sarnia, Lori Hoekstra (John), Corunna and Linda Smith (Don), Corunna. Loving grandmother of Leanne Morningstar (Brian), Susan Ciprietti (Danny), Andrea Freeman (Scott), Scott Nelson (Kelli), Cara Powers (Nathan), Erica Nelson, Jessica Nelson, Erin Montgomery (Ken), Laura Nelson (Adam Teschke), Michael Nelson, Lyndsay Pavlovic (Robert), and Steve Hoekstra (Katlyn). Great-grandmother of Jenna, Tyler, Joey, Arlo, Brady, Riley, Jordon, Jack, Josephine, Violet, Lincoln, Sutton, Ryan, and Bennett. Predeceased by grandson Jay Smillie (1993). Joan was a lifelong member of the Catholic Women’s League and St. Joseph’s Church, Sarnia. She earned her A.R.T.C. and taught piano for many years. Joan and Jack purchased the family home on Harkness St. in 1942 and Joan continued to live there until 2 years ago. Joan’s family would like to thank Dr. Kim, the palliative care team, the staff of St. Joseph’s Hospice, and the parish team from St. Joseph’s Church, Corunna for the care and compassion shown to her. Friends will be received at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431. N. Christina St., Sarnia on Sunday from 6-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church, Sarnia on Monday, November 12, 2018 at 10 a.m. Cremation to follow.  As an expression of sympathy, friends who wish may send memorial donations to St. Joseph’s Hospice, 475 N.
