Obituary of Michele Bennardo

BENNARDO, Michele - Peacefully in his 96th year MICHELE (MIKE) BENNARDO passed away at Twin Lakes Nursing Home on Wednesday October10^th, 2018. Mike was the beloved son of Rosina (Scarpelli) and Giuseppe Bennardo, born on June 8th 1923 in Rovito, Cosenza, Italy. He was a devoted brother to his siblings - Luigi, Maria (Laudonio), Teresa (Pecora), Franco, Lisetta (Ventura), Elena (Scarpelli), Carolina (Scrivano) & Salvatore. Cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews, a kind and loving cousin and friend. Mike cared deeply for his siblings, nieces, nephews and cousins. He maintained a strong devotion to his extended family and never missed an opportunity to attend a family reunion where he would display his skills playing cards, checkers and bocce. Mike immigrated from Italy to Canada in 1953 and immediately immersed himself in the Canadian culture and Italian community.  He was a founding father of the Dante Club, serving as president from 1965 to 1970 and manager from 1975 to 1982. He was a proud member of the Sarnia Painters Union Local 1590, Knights of Columbus, Italian Pensioners Club and a parishioner of St. Peter’s and Queen of Peace parishes. A heartfelt thank you to the staff and caregivers at Twin Lakes and Trillium Villa who always treated him with kindness, consideration and patience. Visitation will be held at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 Christina St. N., Sarnia, on Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 10-11 a.m.  Funeral Service will be held immediately following in the McKenzie & Blundy Chapel at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow.
