Obituary of Catherine Mary Lynch

LYNCH, Catherine Mary (Somers) – At St. Joseph’s Hospice on Thursday, August 30, 2018  at the age of 91. Beloved wife of the late Dr. John Lynch (2000). Catherine was born in Knockcroghery, Co. Roscommon, Ireland on May 31, 1927.  She will be deeply missed by her two daughters Catherine O'Brien (Tim), Burlington and Mary Bedour (David), Goderich; five sons Owen, Sarnia; John, Toronto; Brian (Nicole), Sarnia; Conor, London and Stephen (Jihyun), Sarnia. Loving grandmother of Jessica and Christina Lynch; Thomas and John Bedour; Conor and Siobhan Lynch; Natasha and Audrey Lynch. Sister of Gerry Somers (Sheila), England and sisters Sheila Gilroy (late Matt), Ireland; Vera Craven (late Padraig), Ireland and Monica Rickerts (Ronald), California. Predeceased by parents John Patrick & Mary Ann Somers, brother John Joe Somers and sisters Tess Geraghty, Bridie Heffernan, Eileen Rowlands and May Pender. Catherine was a registered nurse and mid-wife, founder of Birthright Sarnia, a foster parent to many, a C.N.I.B. volunteer, member of the Secular Franciscans and a decades-long member of The Catholic Women’s League. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Joseph’s Hospice for their compassionate and dignified care given to Mom during her stay there.  Friends and family will be received at McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 431 N. Christina St. Sarnia on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Franciscan prayers will be offered at 8:30. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at 10:30 a.m.  Interment Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery.
