MINAKER, ROGER GORDON - Sarnia has lost one of its finist. Corporal Roger Gordon Minaker died peacefully at Marshall Gowland Manor, on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at the age of 84. Beloved husband of Velma. Loving father of Jody Minaker & his wife Wendy. Dear step-father of Gerry Maccartney and Rick Macartney & his wife Darlene. Cherished grandfather of Nathan & Mallory Barnhardt, Tiffany Felton (Jim), Sarah Ryan, Joey Minaker, Skyla & Kasha Minaker, Robert Macartney, Shannon Soaeres (Jack) and Jamie Macartney. Great-grandfather of Harvest Ryan, Matthew Minaker, Mataoe & Joequim Soaeres and Aiden & Ash Felton. Also survived by his sister Tracy and many nieces & nephews. Predeceased by his parents Elmer & Lorna Minaker, daughter Rodlynne Barnhardt, son Roger Minaker Jr., baby sister Agnes Minaker, brother Ronald Minaker and his sister Maxine Minaker. Roger served with distinction on the Sarnia Police Force, where he earned the rank of Corporal, and the trust and admiration of his fellow officers and the citizens he served before retiring in 1985. Roger boxed and enjoyed a brief career as a professional wrestler. Throughout his life, he was dedicated to fitness and earned awards as a power lifter even into his 70's. He loved the gym and spent many hours at Iron Works working-out, training other members and enjoying the comradery of countless friends. He especially enjoyed coaching and encouraging the Developmentally Disabled. Roger loved boating, snowmobiling, traveling and spent many summers fishing on the shores of the Bay of Quinte. He was a relentless opponent in a game of "pepper", a great story-teller, and a man deeply devoted to his family and friends. Arrangements entrusted to the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, (519-344-3131) Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Roger's life will be held at a later date.
