Obituary of Thelma Rose Mary Sadleir
It is with great regret that the family announce the passing of Thelma Rose Mary Sadleir in her 95th year on Wednesday, March 23, 2017 at Vision Nursing Home in Sarnia. Thelma took great joy in guiding her family on life's journey and did so with a special blend of caring and pragmatism. She will be greatly missed. She was born on April 23, 1922 in Point Edward, Ontario. Known to many of her close friends and colleagues as 'Skip', Thelma was one of 8 sisters and 4 brothers born to John and Rosemary Allen (nee Bryant). Rosemary Allen died in childbirth and following John Allen's death, the younger unmarried children were adopted by various families or lived with elder siblings. Thelma was adopted by David Ross and Janet (nee Rorrison) of Point Edward. She attended elementary school in Point Edward and high school in Sarnia and enjoyed playing basketball, hockey and softball in her teenage years. Apart from a period in Toronto during the war years, Thelma spent her working life in Sarnia and became an ardent golfer, took up skiing in later life and was a prolific knitter to the benefit of all in the family including her many dogs who always had warm winter sweaters. Thelma was predeceased by her husband, Charles (Chuck) W. Sadleir, sisters, Ada, (Blue), Alice (Paltridge), Violet (Congdon), Millie (Mangan), Helen (Scroggie), Betty (Allen), Jeanne (Manser) and brothers John and Howard. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, C. David and Gillian M. (Rosemont); brothers Logie Allen (Sarnia) and Fred Foster (Grimsby); grandchildren Jonathan David (Canberra, Australia) and wife Alicia; Geoffrey Scott (Toronto) and wife Susanne; and Catherine Mary (Toronto); great grandchildren Joshua and Dakotah (Toronto) and Madeleine, Kai and Olivia (Canberra, Australia). Also surviving are many nieces and nephews in extended families in Ontario, Alberta and the USA. At Thelma's request there will be no visitation. Arrangements entrusted to the McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home & Cremation Centre 519-344-3131. Thank you to the staff and medical team at Vision Nursing Home for their kind and compassionate care. Thanks also to the many friends who provided caring moral support throughout her widowed years and during her latter years of poor health.
