Obituary of Margaret Elizabeth McKeever Gates
McKEEVER GATES Margaret Elizabeth (Hamilton) - Our loving Mother and best friend is now in peace. With her children by her side, Marg passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospice on Monday, May 9, 2016 at the age of 86. Predeceased by her beloved husband Joseph Eric McKeever (1983) and her baby daughter Kim Marie (1958). Marg was the only child of Russell and Edna Hamilton, born in Wallaceburg on February 8th, 1930. She will be greatly missed by her children Michael and Devi McKeever (Hong Kong), Jan McKeever and Bill Beggs (Lambton Shores), Carol and Brian Taylor (Toronto), Ann Marie and Mike Reeve (Brampton). She loved and was very proud of her beautiful granddaughter Hayley Reeve (Brampton). She was also much loved by Mason Beggs and his family (Forest) and Michael Beggs and his family (Thunder Bay), as well as her Indonesian family, Devi's mother, Nurani Sumardi and family. Marg worked at Sarnia General Hospital in the Human Relations Department which she thoroughly enjoyed. After her retirement, she volunteered at the Cancer Clinic for many years, only stopping when her health no longer let her continue. Marg was a true lady, a kind and loving mother and a true, caring friend to all who knew her. She had many dear and special friends whom she treasured and will greatly miss her. She loved to garden, golf, read on her front porch, shop with her daughters, attend retiree luncheons with special friends, meet for coffee, do crosswords, and travel. Her travels took her to Asia several times - to Jakarta for her son's wedding, to Bali, the Philippines and Hong Kong. Over the past several years mom struggled with health issues as courageously as she could, always one to do her very best and never complain. There are so many incredible people to thank who have helped and loved her through her journey. She was extremely grateful for them. Dr. Heather Roegan - not only her physician, but a friend who we thank for introducing her to St. Joseph's Hospice, Angel Maddie from Angel Care who spent many evenings caring for mom through her difficult times, Dr. Allison Crombeen and the nurses, PSW's, staff and volunteers at St. Joseph's Hospice - a truly wonderful place. Words can never explain how thankful we are for each and every one of you. You all showed such love and caring to our mother and to us as well. You are all truly Angels. Visitation at McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 431 Christina St. N., Sarnia will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016 from 11 am - 12 noon. The memorial service will be held at McKenzie & Blundy Chapel immediately following at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, a donation to St. Joseph's Hospice, 475 Christina St., N. Sarnia, ON N7T 5W3 or the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. As this is a celebration of a wonderful woman, there is no need to wear black. Please wear your bright colours in honour of her. Mom would love it.
A tree will be planted in memory of Margaret McKeever Gates in the McKenzie & Blundy Memorial Forest. Dedication service Sunday, September 18th, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wawanosh Wetlands Conservation Area.
