Obituary of Emil Hojka
HOJKA, Emil - At Bluewater Health on Monday, December 7, 2015 at the age of 92. Beloved husband of Kathleen (nee Parsons) for 63 years; loving father of Helen (Mike) Akerboom, Fort Saskatchewan, AB and Margaret (Robert) Stephenson, Kitchener. Dear grandpa of Chris (Crysta), Ken (Shannon), Laura (Matt), Ryan (Marie) and James. Great-grandpa of Tyler and Logan. Brother of Jadwiga Dolibog, Poland. Brother-in-law of Cilka and Truda Hojka, Poland. Also surviving are many nieces & nephews. Predeceased by parents Stanislaw (1967) & Gertruda (1985) Hojka, brothers Pawel (1972) and Teodor (1992), and brother-in-law Ludwig Dolibog. Emil was born on February 10, 1923 in Kozlowa Gora, Poland. Emil served with the 5th Infantry Division of the British Army, Polish II Corps, under General Anders at the Battle of Monte Cassino in 1944. He moved to England in 1946 where he met his wife Kathleen. They moved to Canada in 1952 and wed on December 6, 1952. Emil retired from Fiberglas Canada in 1987. He was a member of the Polish Alliance of Canada Br. 14, member and past president of the Polish Combatants' Association of Sarnia (SPK) and a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Choir. Emil's family would like to thank Dr. Christopher Greensmith and the staff of Bluewater Health for the care and support given to him during his time there. Visitation at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 N. Christina St., Sarnia on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Jan Pochwala at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 11, 2015 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.
