Obituary of Reta Elizabeth Mitro

MITRO (nee Houlahan) RETA, ELIZABETH – Peacefully, at Bendale Acres Long Term Care Facility in Scarborough, ON, on Sunday, November 8, 2015 at the age of 82. Beloved wife of the late Steve Mitro. Loving mother of Catherine Mitro, Port Credit, Carole Mitro & her friend Bill Pettypiece, Sarnia, Stephen Mitro & his wife Haeyoung, Sarnia, Frederick Mitro & his wife Sandra, Houston, Texas and David Mitro & his wife Sachiko, Toronto. Cherished grandmother of Julie Sullivan, Toronto, Laura Sullivan, London, Allen Mitro & Karen Mitro, Toronto, Christopher Mitro & Kevin Mitro, Sarnia. She is survived and sadly missed by her brothers Jack (Ruth), Ed (Marie) all of Sarnia, Eugene (Doreen) of Calgary, sisters Madeline Wells of Hensall, Ann Mercer of London, sisters-in-law Shirley of Winnipeg and Linda of Vancouver. Reta was predeceased by her parents Joseph & Kathleen (McKeever) Houlahan, by her sister Mary (the late Earl) Erickson, by brothers Lawrence (the late Lillian), Gerald, Joe, and Jim, and by brother-in-law Donald Wells. Reta was a member of the St. Benedict’s Catholic Women’s League for over 40 years and also a member of the Secular Order of Franciscan Society, St. Anthony of Padue Fraternity. She was also a past president and member of the Lambton Right to Life Organization and a volunteer with the Canadian Diabetes Association. Reta dedicated many years as an active member of the Christian Heritage Party. The family would also like to express their profound gratitude to the staff at Bendale Acres for their devotion to making Reta’s last years comfortable and happy. Friends will be received at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431. N. Christina St., Sarnia from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Thursday, November 12, 2015. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Savel at St. Benedict’s Church on Friday, November 13 at 10:30 a.m., followed by a luncheon. Interment 3:00 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, Leamington. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may send memorial donations to Lambton Right to Life, P.O. Box 728, Sarnia, N7T 7J7 or the Alzheimer Society of Sarnia-Lambton, 420 East St. N., Suite 8, Sarnia, N7T 6Y5.
