Obituary of Luke Louis de Vries
de VRIES - Luke Louis, 74 of Sarnia, Ontario passed away suddenly in Rottweil, Germany on April 16th, 2015. Luke was born in Amsterdam, on June 25th, 1940. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Lucienne A.M. de Vries (nee Fontaine) and his three children; son Lucas & wife Wendy, Virgil, daughter Helene & husband Cameron Renwick, Huntsville and son Marcel & wife Miho Nakajima of Vancouver. Beloved Opa of grandchildren Connor, Briar, Dillon, Carling, Allyson and Iain. Luke is also survived by sisters At Hubers, Gerda de Vries, Marion de Vries, Netherlands and brother Joute de Vries, Alberta. Predeceased by sister Ep Muurman and brother William de Vries both of the Netherlands. Luke was a proud Royal Dutch Marine, a master potter by trade and a dedicated employee of Imperial Oil from 1968 until 1998. He also volunteered with the Merchant Mission Sea Farers. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. A memorial visitation will be held at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 Christina St. N., Sarnia, on Saturday, May 9, 2015 from 1 - 3 p.m. A video tribute and words of reflection honouring Luke will take place at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Sarnia & District Humane Society, 131 Exmouth St, Sarnia, N7T 5M3.
A tree will be planted in memory of Luke de Vries in the McKenzie & Blundy Memorial Forest. Dedication service Sunday, September 20th, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wawanosh Wetlands Conservation Area.
