Obituary of William Ross Carson

CARSON, William Ross - Bill Carson died Monday morning, December 28, 2009 at Bluewater Health, Mitton Site in his 90th year. He died surrounded by his loving wife Elinore Haig and children. Bill is father of Ross Carson (Ann Blackman), Judith Chalmers and Diane Carson (James Ling) and brother-in-law of Marie and Charles Crawford. He is loving Grandpa of Emma Ross (Phillip), Lydia Carson, Ryan Vieira, Laura and Wesley Chalmers. Bill was pre-deceased by his loving wife of nearly fifty-one years Hazel Sinclair, the mother of his three children, and by his parents the Rev. Dr. Hermon A. Carson and Emma Ross Carson. Since the fall of 2000, he has been dear husband of Elinore Haig and step-father of Robert Haig (Nancy), Heather Hill (James) and James Haig (Ruth) and their children Aaron (Sara), Fraser (Julia), Chris (Erin), Jason, Andrew and Alison. Born in Cobourg, Ontario, his family moved while Bill was very young, to Rock Island, Quebec (now Stanstead) where he spent his formative years. He attended Stanstead College and McGill University, graduating in 1943 with a Chemical Engineering Degree. He was assigned to the synthetic rubber project in Sarnia shortly after graduation and was employed at Polysar Ltd. for 40 years. Bill was a long-time, active member of Central United Church and served on many boards and committees. He was also a proud member of the Allegro Club at the church. He was a curling member of the Sarnia Golf and Curling Club and a golfing member at Huron Oaks. There will be visitation at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE on Wednesday, December 30 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Central United Church on Thursday, December 31 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Christine Jerrett officiating. A private interment of ashes will take place at Lakeview Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, friends who wish may send donations to the Memorial Bequest Fund at Central United Church, 220 George Street, Sarnia, N7T 4N9 or to the charity of your choice.
