Obituary of Petro Zacharia

ZACHARIA, Petro “Peter” – Passed away peacefully at Afton Park Place on Monday, October 26, 2009 at the age of 94. Beloved husband of the late Olga (1987). Dear brother of Dr. Ivan Zacharia in Ukraine. Loving father of Roxana (Harry) Sochan. Proud grandfather of Mark (Mary Sue), Roman (Kathleen), Paul (Joan), and Daniel; and great-grandfather of Nikolia, Aleksander, Colleen, Nadia, Lydia, Michael, Kristof and Natalya. Predeceased by four brothers and two sisters in Ukraine. Petro was born July 9, 1915 at Popelnyky, Ukraine to Prokip and Anastasia (Nemisz) Zacharia and was one of eight children. Petro obtained a Commerce Degree in Ukraine and emigrated to Canada in 1948 with his wife Olga and daughter Roxana. He was one of the founding members of St. George’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Sarnia and was a very active member of the church council. Visitation at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 Christina St. N., Sarnia, on Monday, November 2nd from 7-9 p.m. with Panakhyda at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Edward Yarema at St. George’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1045 Rosedale Ave., Sarnia on Tuesday, November 3rd at 10 a.m. Interment Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery.
