Obituary of Bernie Arton

ARTON, “Bernie” Bernard – Born in Featherstone, England, June 13, 1923; passed away peacefully in Sarnia, September 19, 2009 in the early hours of the morning with his family by his side. Bernard is survived by his wife of 49 years Dorothy; daughters Susan Schmitz (Bob) and Judy Arton (Kevin Smith); four grandsons Tanner, Hayden, Carson and Myles; and brother-in-law Ross McManus (the late Barbara). He enjoyed many years of retirement since 1985, following his 25 years of employment with Sears Canada. Bernard served with the British Air Force in WWII, and volunteered many hours with the Red Cross, Bluewater Musical Productions, the Sarnia/Lambton Golden ‘K’ Kiwanis, and Sears Retirees. Dorothy and Bernie travelled many times to Vancouver and spent numerous hours enjoying their four grandsons. A funeral service will be held at Central United Church (George & Brock Sts.) on Saturday, October 10, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Christine Jerrett officiating. A private family interment will be held at Wyoming Public Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 519-344-3131.
