Obituary of Thomas Charles Fischer

FISCHER, Thomas Charles - Peacefully at his home with his family and friends by his side, Thomas died after a courageous battle with esophogeal cancer on Monday, August 3, 2009 in his 68th year. Beloved husband for 39 years of Lynn (Caldwell). Devoted father of Erin (Robert) Meth, St. Thomas, and Alyson and Anne-Marie Fischer, London. Cherished grandfather of Ryan and Zoe Meth. Brother of Ruth Ann (Peter) Jensen and uncle of Paul and Eric. Predeceased by his parents, Helen and Charles. Tom was born in Sarnia and lived in many cities throughout his career as an Engineer with Texaco Canada and then returned to Sarnia where he was employed by Suncor. He retired 10 years ago. Tom had many interests including boating, photography and genealogy. He, Lynn and their family enjoyed many wonderful days on their boat, Anam Cara, and enjoyed cruising the Trent-Severn Waterway and the North Channel. Tom was an avid photographer and produced many wonderful DVDs and photographic memory books for his family and friends. He was on the Board of Huron House Boys Home and then St. Joseph's Hospice where he was active with the Capital Campaign. In past years he was also an active member of Cursillo, COR and Sacred Heart Parish. Tom was a man of deep faith and integrity and treated everyone with dignity and respect. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Special thanks to our dear friends, Drs. Glen Maddison and Monique Dostaler, Fr. Christina St., Sarnia, on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. where prayers will be offered at 8:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church on Friday, August 7th at 11 a.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, friends who wish may send memorial donations to St. Joseph’s Hospice, 110 Water St., Sarnia, N7T 5T5.
