Obituary of Domenico Saurini
SAURINI, Domenico – At Bluewater Health – Mitton Site, on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at the age of 88. Beloved husband of Vittoria (DeCarolis) for 62 years. Dear father of Rita & her husband Rocco Petitta, Sarnia and Ivana & her husband Bruno Gismondi, Sarnia. Loving Nonno of Patricia & her husband Tony Di Federico, Sarnia, Anna & her husband Michael Bacchetta, Sterling Heights, Mi., Domenico Gismondi and Roberto Gismondi, both of Sarnia. Great-grandfather of Marco and Daniel Di Federico and Avaea Bacchetta. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews in Sarnia, Toronto, Michigan and Italy. Predeceased by brothers Ludovico (Maria) and Rocco Saurini, Italy and sister Loreta (Concetto) DeCarolis, Michigan. Also predeceased by many brothers and sisters-in-law in Toronto, Michigan and Italy. Domenico came to Sarnia in 1959 and was joined by his family in 1961. He fought with the Italian Army in W.W.II from 1939. He was captured as a prisoner of war by the British Troops in Libya and was released in England in 1946. In Sarnia, Domenico worked with the Labourer’s Union Local 1089 retiring at the age of 64. He was a member of The Holy Rosary Society, the Dante Club and the Pensioner’s Clubs of both the Dante Club and St. Peter’s Church. Visitation will be held at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 N. Christina St., Sarnia, on Thursday from 7-9 p.m. and Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. where prayers will be offered at 3:30 p.m. Friday. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. A tree will be planted in memory of Domenico Saurini in the McKenzie & Blundy Memorial Forest. Dedication service Sunday, September 20th, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wawanosh Wetlands Conservation Area.
