Obituary of Lorne Bruce Brunton

BRUNTON, Dr. Lorne – The family of Dr. Lorne Brunton is saddened to announce his passing on Friday, March 13, 2009 at Bluewater Health, Norman Site, Continuing Care. Lorne, age 87, was born in Thamesford on February 18, 1922, to Allan and Blanche Brunton. Survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy (Sansburn) of Sarnia. Sadly missed by his children Bill (Cathy) of North Bay, Doug (Christine) of Richmond, BC, Ann (Robyn Harvey) of London; grandchildren Andrew (Simone) of Kelowna, BC, Matthew (Dyane) of North Bay, Olivia of London; great-grandchildren Hannah and Benjamin of North Bay; his late brother Len (Jean) of Burlington and brother Don (Pat) of Whitby; special cousins Bernice Gates of Parry Sound, and Bernice Zimmerman of Sacramento, California. Raised in Toronto, Lorne graduated from U of T Dentistry. Stationed at Crumlin, he served in the Dental Core during WWII. He began his practice of dentistry in Sarnia in 1946, married Dorothy in 1947 and was an active community member thereafter. He was a member of the Sarnia-Lambton Dental Society, one time Chief of Staff Dental Services at the Sarnia General Hospital, a life member of both the Canadian and Ontario Dental Associations, and Xi Psi Phi Dental Fraternity. He was on the board of the Children’s Aid and served a term as President. He was an active member of Central United Church and its “Allegro Club”. An avid golfer, he was a long time member of the Sarnia Golf Club. He and Dorothy loved to travel, and visited much of the world. Retiring in 1985, they wintered in Florida. Recently he has battled cancer and Alzheimer’s. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date in the spring.
