Obituary of Robert Boldt

BOLDT, ROBERT THOMPSON – It is with extreme sadness that the death of Robert T. “Bob” Boldt, of Sarnia is announced, in his 78th year. He is survived by his beloved wife Marnie, daughter Ann of Jasper, Alberta and son David, his wife Sandy, and their children Spencer and Taylor of Sarnia. Born in Barrie, Ont., and educated in Ottawa and Queen’s University he joined Dow Chemical Canada Ltd. in Sarnia in 1953. A 35 year employee, he loved the manufacturing arm of the company and was in charge of many positions, ending up as Senior Vice President. Upon retirement, he was a specialist for the Ministry of Labour and also the Ministry of the Environment for Ontario. He was a guest lecturer at the University of Toronto and the National Centre of Hygiene and Medical Ecology in Sofia, Bulgaria. He was instrumental in the development of the Responsible Care Program for the Canadian Chemical Producers Association (CCPA). For several years he worked for the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) with missions to many developing countries around the world. In Sarnia, he had wide interests in such things as the Photochromatic Club, Y.M.C.A., Boy Scouts, and the emergency plan for the city. He was a past president of the Rotary Club of Sarnia, and a member of the Sarnia Golf and Curling Club. Bob had a vision to create an outdoor ice rink, thus the Dow People Place was conceived. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held at Trinity Anglican Church, (corner Murphy & Michigan), Sarnia on Thursday, October 23 at 11 a.m. As an expression of sympathy, friends who wish may send memorial donations to the Sarnia Humane Society, 131 Exmouth St., Sarnia, N7T 7W8.
