SCHAW, DOROTHY MAY - Passed away at home, on Thursday, June 26, 2008 at the age of 84. Loving mother of, predeceased Valerie, Tommy and Anthony, John & his wife Karen, Taraleen, and Sharon & her husband Tim. Cherished grandmother of 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Betty Miazga, Nottingham, England. Predeceased by her beloved John Thomas Parkes and late husband Alfred John Schaw, parents Harriett & Charles Spooner, brother Charlie Spooner and sisters Beatty Morris, Margaret Langevin, Kathleen Spooner, Maureen Spooner and her longtime friend John Padmore. Dorothy was born in 1923 in Nottingham, England. She was a veteran of the Blitz on London and Nottingham, during W.W. II. After the war, she owned her own grocery store aptly named “Dot’s”. She immigrated to Canada in March, 1960, living 6 years in Quebec before moving with her family to Ontario. She came to Sarnia in 1986, turning 105 Sycamore Drive into “Dorothy’s Garden”. Dorothy was a past member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 62, and was active in the 90’s as a Palliative Care volunteer and in the Schizophrenia Society. Her love of her family, her zest for life and generosity of spirit will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her. A memorial service will be held at the ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION, BR. 62, 286 Front St. N. in Sarnia on Wednesday, July 9 at 3 p.m. As an expression of sympathy, friends who wish may send memorial donations to the Schizophrenia Society of Ontario, 130 Spadina Ave. # 302, Toronto, M5V 2L4 or St. Peter’s Health, 88 Maplewood, Hamilton, L8M 1W9.
