WALLEN, Mary Gertrude – At Sumac Lodge, Sarnia on Thursday, February 17, 2011, Mary died in her 95th year. Beloved wife of the late Charles Edwin Wallen (1993). Dear mother of Radcliff Wallen & his wife Carol, Lakeport, MI., John A. (Tony) Wallen & his wife Phyllis, Mississauga and James Wallen & his wife Kris, Toronto. Loving grandmother of Lainie Hoag & her husband David, Shelby, North Carolina, Elizabeth Anne Young & her husband Ryan, Prather, California, Jacob Wallen & his wife Liz, Toronto, Katie Wallen, Niagara Falls, Simone Wallen, Perth, Australia, Alexander Wallen, Toronto and Julia Wallen, Toronto. Great-grandmother of Madelyn, Owen, Molly and Juliet all of Shelby, North Carolina. Predeceased by brother Hugh Carter. Mary graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Royal Victoria Hospital in Victoria, B.C. in 1939. She and her graduating class served with the Canadian Armed Forces in World War II in London, England and on the Italian Front. Mary and Chuck met in Victoria where she nursed him back to health. They married on December 7, 1945 and moved to Chuck’s hometown of Oil Springs. Mary was an avid curler, golfer and loved to walk. She was a former member of the Sarnia Golf & Curling Club and Canon Davis Memorial Anglican Church. Visitation will be held at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 Christina St. N., Sarnia, on Saturday from 5-7 p.m. A memorial service will be held at a later date with interment at Hillsdale Cemetery, Petrolia.
