Obituary of Ruth Carolyn Devlin
DEVLIN, Ruth Carolyn – “Life is eternal, and love is immortal, and death is only a horizon; and a horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight”. – Rossiter W. Raymond. With heavy hearts, we regretfully announce the passing of Ruth Carolyn Devlin on Friday, April 22, 2011, peacefully in her sleep after a long struggle. Ruth’s final days were spent in the loving embrace of her family at the Palliative Medicine unit of Bluewater Health. Ruth joins her late husband Edward Devlin, father Charles Graham, mother Pearl Graham (Stumpf) and brother Robert Graham. She is survived by loving daughter Kathleen Storey (Steve Raes), Sarnia, brother Jack Graham (wife Georgia), West Bloomfield, Michigan, sister-in-law Terry (Robert Graham), Tucson, Arizona, grandchildren Angela and Daniel Punch, great-grandchildren Araya and Phoenix and several nieces and nephews. Ruth was born in an old farm house in Royal Oak, Michigan on January 12, 1926. She loved spending time at home in the care of her mother, Pearl, and lived in that same house until her marriage. Ruth was a very proud American, and kept her country, family and that old farm house in her heart all her life. On May 15, 1954, she married Edward Devlin, and was able to start her own home and care for her own daughter Kathleen. Ruth spent much of her time decorating and gardening, taking great pride in a house that eventually became a loving home to children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will forever be remembered for her irrepressible sense of humour and the enormous courage she demonstrated in her final days. Ruth was laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery on Wednesday, April 27 among family following a private ceremony at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE. We would like to thank the staffs of Afton Park Place, the Palliative Medicine unit of Bluewater Health and McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home for their grace and compassion throughout this difficult time. Special thanks goes to George Esser of River City Vineyard for conducting the funeral service. As an expression of sympathy, friends who wish may send memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Sarnia/Lambton, 420 East St. N., Sarnia, N7T 6Y5.
