Obituary of Ivy Constance Connors

CONNORS, IVY – It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our mom, and best friend, Ivy Constance Connors, age 88, who passed away peacefully at Bluewater Health, Sarnia on Saturday, July 30, 2011. Predeceased by her beloved husband John J. Connors in 2005. Deeply loved and sadly missed by her 2 daughters, Joanne Gobits with her husband Bill, and Sue Mantha with her husband Paul. Gramma will be so sadly missed by her grandchildren Shaun, Stacy, Ryan Gobits, and Holly Howell with her husband Andrew, and Heather Amaral with her husband Nelson. Mom’s 5 adored great-grandchildren, Gracie and Ivy Howell, Max and Mason Amaral and Cole Nisbit, loved their visits with their Great-Gramma, especially missing her hugs, holding her hand and sharing her cookies. Mom’s 6th Great-grandchild is due in September, baby Amaral. Mom was a war bride, and met dad during the war at Trafalgar Square, London, England in June 1944. They corresponded until dad proposed in May 1946. During a 10 day sailing from England, Mom made many life long war bride friends. Dad was waiting for her on the dock in New York City. After spending a few days in New York, with one of dad’s friends, a fellow Flying Officer, during World War II, they started their journey to Wyoming, Ontario. They were married on June 29, 1946 and moved to Sarnia. A few years later they moved to the lake where both Mom and Dad enjoyed their life and raised their family. Mom worked at Dow Chemical when first arriving in Canada, then enjoyed a 33 year career with the Sarnia Golf & Curling Club in the business office. She retired in 1990. Mom was a very kind and gentle woman with a great sense of humour. Most of all, Mom loved spending time with her family. She also enjoyed her daily trips to Ice Cream Galore in Point Edward for an ice cream cone and a visit with Holly. We would like to thank all the staff of Bluewater Health, 5th floor, Cognitive Continuing Care where Mom has spent the last 7 months of her life. We thank you for giving our Mom a home away from home with all your love and personal care. We are eternally grateful to all of you. We will all miss you Mom.
